Around the world, there are about 70 state mints, which annually strike tens of thousands of collectible coins of various sizes, made from different metals, and on a wide variety of themes. After purchasing both individual coins and entire sets, collectors inevitably face the question: how should all of this be stored?

Manufacturers of numismatic accessories typically offer solutions for the most common and popular coin formats. But what about rare coins or sets that are practically unavailable in your region? Where and how can they be stored safely and neatly?

The German manufacturer of collector accessories, SAFE, has proposed a smart, reliable, and universal solution — a flocked memory foam pad. It is a foam material with a dark blue velour coating. A coin is carefully placed on the pad’s surface and pressed lightly into it. As a result, an individual indentation is formed that exactly matches the coin’s size and shape. This solution allows coins of different shapes, diameters, and thicknesses to be arranged in a single box, case, or cassette, and also makes it possible to create unique compositions or series. The manufacturer uses these pads in various models of cases, boxes, cassettes, and trays, turning them into universal storage solutions for virtually any coin collection.

Thus, the main advantage of this solution is its versatility. However, like any product, it has its drawbacks. First, there is the cost: accessories with a flocked pad are more expensive than similar models with pre-formed indentations. Second, the pad is essentially intended for one-time creation of coin seats. Once a coin is pressed into the material, the indentation remains for a long time. Changing the arrangement or completely restoring the pad to its original surface is no longer possible. Therefore, when placing coins in a case with a flocked pad, it is important to plan the composition and order of the coins in advance to maintain a neat and aesthetically pleasing collection.
